When you come to a point in your life where you're at a standstill...what do you do? There are a few options to explore here. I will share my views on two options. Do nothing - Stand still and let God have complete control of your life. Complete control allows God to manifest the plan that He has for us. We as people, and generally speaking for myself, tend to try to do God's job. When I pray about a situation, I have a habit of worrying about it and trying to come up with ways to fix it or resolve what's going on. I stress on what I don't have, what I need, and how I can get it.
Before beginning the job I have now, I was employed with a company for 8yrs. I worked superhard and while there obtained my MPA degree. Because of the way the position was written, I was at the top of my pay grade and there was no room for growth. Another position became available and I discussed applying for the position with my then supervisor. He told me that he would not be considering me for the position. Not only was I angry with his lack of candor, but I was extremely hurt. So I began applying for other jobs, had some interviews, but none of the postions came through. So I actually decided that I would do nothing and do you know what God did...he showed up....and he was on time!!!! Out of the blue, one of the jobs I had applied for called me after months to ask if I was still interested. To God be the Glory. I simply stood still.
Well, I did say there are a few options and here is where I feel I contradict myself in my thinking. James 2:20 states that "faith without works is dead". Absolutely! Work is the manisfestation of faith. The things that you do to reveal your faith allows you to be able to grow and develop. I can say all day that I want better things in my life, I want a better house, a better car, more money....but what actions have I taken to attain those things. First of all did I tithe...we all know that tithing is the action of our faith, right? Malachi 3:10 says that if you tithe God will "open the windows of Heaven and pour you out a blessing". I want a better house and a better car, so I need to clean up my credit and handle my finances correctly in order to have those things. Again that's putting work to faith.
There will always be a contradiction to whether you should or should not sit there when you want something to happen in your life. But the great thing about God is that, He knows what's best in every situation. If there is a real relationship between you and God, He will tell you whether to "Stand Still" or "Sit There". Listen to Him and He will direct your path. Case in point, I recently was going through a situation in my home. I prayed about it daily, and I asked God to be manifested in the situation. I didn't feed it, or to try to alleviate it. I asked God for direction, and His direction was to do nothing. Peace has been restored. I hope this blog brings some comfort to you and lets you know that God is able and He can and will give you the desires of your heart.
